About
Armagh Theatre Group was founded in 1965 with the objective of satisfying the needs of the citizens of Armagh for good theatre and thus enriching the life of the community. Over the last 40 years it has presented a wide variety of plays and has involved all sides of the community in its activities.
The Group’s first production was Our Town by Thornton Wilder, directed by Seamus Mallon and this was followed by The Crucible by Arthur Miller. A huge variety of plays followed all of which were widely acclaimed. The Group has competed in Drama Festivals all over Ireland with great success. Adam’s Children written and produced by Seamus Mallon won the Premier Award at the All Ireland One Act Festival in Naas in 1970 while The Shadow Box, 1982 and The Factory Girls, 1989 both reached the Ulster Finals. More recent productions include The Risen People, 2000, The Silver Tassie, 2001, Dolly West’s Kitchen, 2004 and I Do Not Like Thee Dr Fell, 2005.
The group is based in Abbey Lane where it has its own small theatre and rehearsal room. New members are always welcome whatever their interest or level of expertise.
Anyone interested in working in theatre design: set design, lighting and sound, or costume design are encouraged to contact us. We would welcome new ideas and talent in these areas.
